Amasya05 is a culture and arts magazine that tells the history, culture, literature, neighbourhoods and villages of Amasya on the basis of documented sources. Articles on the site are prepared, reviewed and updated by the Amasya05 Editorial Board. The editor is Mevlüt Erdem Öztürk. This page explains how our articles are prepared, which sources they rely on and how errors are corrected.
Use of Sources
Dates, figures, names and events in our articles are based on sources; the bibliography at the end of each article lists the works and pages used. In choosing sources we observe the following order:
- Primary and classical sources: Abdîzâde Hüseyin Hüsâmeddîn Yasar's Amasya Tarihi (History of Amasya; Amasya Municipality Cultural Publications, 2022 edition), Ottoman tax registers and provincial yearbooks, endowment deeds, inscriptions, biographical anthologies of poets and travel accounts.
- Scholarly works: articles of the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, papers in peer-reviewed journals, graduate theses and critical editions (such as edited divans).
- Official institutions: publications of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Directorate of Foundations, the governorship, the municipality and the university, and geographical indication registrations.
- Local testimony and press: memoirs such as Osman Fevzi Olcay's Amasya Hâtıraları and local news reports are used only within their own scope and always with attribution.
No information is written on the basis of search-result snippets or online content of unclear origin; the full text of every external source used is read.
Verification and Uncertainty
Where sources contradict each other, both views are given together with the source of each; if it is not known which is correct, this is stated plainly. Legends, hagiographies and folk narratives are not presented as historical fact and are marked with phrases such as "according to tradition". When a piece of information could not be confirmed by another source, the text says that it "could not be verified" or that "no information was found in other sources". Interpretations and inferences drawn from the sources are kept separate from what the sources themselves say.
Original Texts and Copyright
The entries of Amasya Tarihi in the Encyclopedia section reproduce the text of the 2022 edition published by the Municipality of Amasya, preserving its original spelling; each entry carries the source, a link to the e-book and the municipality's copyright notice. The original texts of the poems in the Literature section follow the transliteration of the scholarly editions named in each article; the modern renderings, translations and commentaries belong to Amasya05. Texts of works still under copyright are not published.
Corrections Policy
If you notice an error, an omission or a statement that does not match its source, please write to us through the contact form, if possible with the address of the article and the source you rely on. Every report is reviewed; corrections confirmed by sources are made in the article and its update date is renewed. Where a significant change of information is made, this is noted in the relevant section or in the bibliography.
Updates and Revisions
Articles are reviewed, expanded and updated as new sources and research become available. The publication date is shown at the top of every article, and updated articles also show the date of their last revision.
Languages
Amasya05 is published in Turkish and English. The English versions are faithful translations of the Turkish articles; original poems and book texts are kept in their original language on the English pages as well. If the English version of an article is not ready, that article does not appear in the English section.
