Ladik
Hüsameddin describes the Ahmed Saray district as "near Ladik." Ladik is today a district of Samsun province, about 82 kilometers southwest of the provincial center, on a high plain. Lake Ladik and Akdağ are the defining features of the district; there are also thermal springs at the place called Hamamayağı. The settlement, known in antiquity as Laodikeia Pontika, is regarded as founded in the Hellenistic period, in the time of the Kingdom of Pontus, and it continued to exist in the Roman and Byzantine periods. In the course of the Turkification of Anatolia it came under the rule of the Seljuk State and the Danishmendids. In the Ottoman period it is recorded as a kaza attached to the sanjak of Canik. The historic tombs of the district include those of Sunullah Pasha, Dikilitaş, and Seyit Ahmet-i Kebir. The sources read do not connect any of these tombs with Seyyid Sadreddîn Kâsım er-Rifâî, whom Hüsameddin names.
The Rifâî Order and the Seyyid Lineage
The nisba "er-Rifâî" given to Seyyid Sadreddîn Kâsım in the text refers to the order founded in the name of Seyyid Ahmed er-Rifâî (d. 1182). The Rifâî order is one of the first Sufi orders of the Islamic world, and it was organized and spread during its founder's lifetime. Ahmed er-Rifâî was a seyyid descended from Hz. Hüseyin; he was born in 1118 at Ümm Abîde in the Batâih region of Iraq, between Wasit and Basra. In the twelfth century the order spread to Syria, Egypt, eastern and southeastern Anatolia, Yemen, and other Islamic lands, and by the end of the thirteenth century, when the Ottoman state was founded, it was one of the important orders in Anatolia. It is stated that before the 1925 law that banned the lodges, there were about forty Rifâî lodges in Istanbul alone.
The persons Hüsameddin lists carry the title "es-Seyyid," which is to say a family held to descend from the Prophet. The family is traced to Sadreddîn Kâsım, whose nisba is "er-Rifâî." It is stated that further information on a member of the same family, "Zeynelâbidîn Ali Çelebi Kâsımzâde Seyyid Ahmedî," will be given in a later entry. Since that entry has not been read, the relationship between the two persons is not interpreted here.
Ahmed Saray and Sadreddîn Kâsım
No source was found in searches on the Ahmed Saray district and on Seyyid Sadreddîn Kâsım er-Rifâî, said to be buried there. The name does not appear in the encyclopedia entries read on Ladik and on the Rifâî order either. For this reason no verified information can be given about the present name of the district or the state of the tomb.
The End of the Volume and the Date Note
This is the last entry of the sixth volume. Hüsameddin himself records that the volume is finished and the day it was finished: the thirteenth of Safer, 1350, a Monday. The year 1931 in square brackets is the Gregorian equivalent of the Hijri year. This date shows the day on which the writing of the sixth volume was completed, and it is valuable for fixing the period in which the text was prepared.
