His Uncle Rahtuvân Hacı Mehmed Pasha and the Taşhan

Ebûbekir Bey's nickname comes from his closeness to his uncle Rahtuvân Hacı Mehmed Pasha. According to the annals in Hüsameddin's fourth volume, Mehmed Pasha was a native of Amasya; as "Şamlıoğlu Rahtuvân Mehmed Ağa" he is counted around 1099 [1687-88] among the powerful ayan of Amasya, and after the seyyid disorder he received the post of dergâh kapıcıbaşı. He then became beylerbeyi of Jeddah, in Zilhicce 1111 [May-June 1700] was appointed mutasarrıf of Amasya, but because he was sent to the Baghdad war he administered the sanjak through his mütesellim.

The Pasha's most important work at Amasya is the Taşhan. According to the cultural inventory records, the han was built in 1699 by the mutasarrıf Rahtuvân Hacı Mehmed Pasha through Mimar Mehmet Kalfa. In the first volume Hüsameddin also writes that the former mutasarrıf of Amasya, Rahtuvân Mehmed Pasha, in 1111 [1699-1700] had a large han built of stone and endowed it to his children, and that in the middle of the han his "mahdûm" Hacı Ahmed Bey later, in 1180 [1766-67], had a mescit built with a şadırvan beneath it. On the main gate of the two-storey han, located in the centre of the town south of the bedesten, there is a long, narrow inscription; shops line both sides of the gate, and inside there are rooms around a broad courtyard. The Taşhan, whose restoration was completed at the end of 2012, is used today as a hotel.

In Hüsameddin's first volume there is also another family called the "Yeğen lineage." This family descends from Yeğen Ali Bey, the son of Rahtuvân Mehmed Pasha's sister, and in the same place it is stated that the influence of the Rahtuvânzâdes could not surpass that of their nephews. Yeğen Ebûbekir Bey of the entry, however, is the son of the Pasha's brother, and his descendants formed a separate branch under the name "Yeğen Bekiroğulları." The two "Yeğen" families must not be confused with one another.

The Iranian War and the Battle of 1151

The year 1146 [1733-34], in which Ebûbekir Bey went to Iran as alaybeyi for the second time, coincides with the harshest phase of the Ottoman-Iranian struggle in the reign of Mahmud I. According to the study by Adnan Adıgüzel and Alper Yıldırım, Topal Osman Pasha, with his army of 80,000, fought a pitched battle lasting about nine hours with Nadir near Baghdad on 19 July 1733 and routed him. Nadir recovered quickly and marched on Kirkuk; in the battle fought there Topal Osman Pasha was killed, and cities such as Kirkuk, Shahrizor and Derne fell into Nadir's hands. According to Hüsameddin's annals, the serdar of Iran, Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Abdullah Pasha, also fell as a martyr in battle in 1148. Ebûbekir Bey's mirlivalık is the reward for the merit he showed in these years of fighting.

The year of his death, 1151 [April 1738 - April 1739], falls not on the Iranian front but in the war continuing in the Balkans. Meanwhile the war opened with Russia in May 1735 had spread to the Balkans from 1737 with Austria's entry as well. In 1738 Ottoman forces entered the Banat, and the army under the command of the pasha of Vidin took Orsova in August. Hüsameddin's annals also record that in 1151 the mutasarrıfs of Amasya were assigned "to the Vidin army," and that Merzifonlu Tuz Mehmed Pasha showed merit "in the Vidin war." In this case the "battle of 1151" in the entry is most probably one of the wars on the Vidin and Danube front; since the entry does not say this explicitly, this remains an inference.

No information about Ebûbekir Bey's sons Ahmed Bey and Osmân Bey and the "Yeğen Bekiroğulları" was found in other sources.
