The pair from Kızıleğrek, Osman Keleş on the zurna and Hüseyin Duran on the davul, played the team two road tunes of the same name, and on the cards they were told apart as "Karşılama" and "Yürütme". In the conservatory's collection catalogue covering 1937 to 1955, the bracketed "Yürütme" was added to the name of no other road tune; the only other title bearing the word is "Sini Yürütme", recorded at Alaca in 1939. The piece closes side B of disc 1124, and its notation was never published.

Lyrics

It is a davul and zurna tune without words, and nothing but the title was written on its card. No publication prints its notation either. The melody remains on disc 1124 of the Folklore Archive, which passed from the Ankara State Conservatory to Hacettepe University; the card information entered the catalogue thanks to the copies transferred to TRT in the 1970s.

Collections and Variants

The road tune is a title met in many regions of the catalogue, from Trabzon to Antalya; on the 1943 tour, too, it was recorded in several places. At the start of the tour, on 26/27 June at Reşadiye, Kamil Kaya played a "Yol Havası" between "Gelin Bindirme" and "Gelin Ağlatma". After Merzifon, "Çarşanba (Deret(?) Yol Havası)" was recorded at Vezirköprü on 11 July, a "Yol Havası" at Bulancak on 25 July, "Cirit Havası (Yol Havası)" at Şebinkarahisar on 27 July and "Uzun Gayda (Başka Bir Yol Havası)" at Maçka on 4 August. In other years the name is explicitly tied to escorting the bride: "Gelin Götürme (Yol Havası)" at Antalya in 1942, "Yol Havası (Gelin Götürme)" at Bingöl in 1944. The cards of the two Merzifon pieces carry no such explanation.

Story

The two pieces were not recorded one after the other: the karşılama is on disc 1121, the yürütme on disc 1124, and other performers' recordings came between them. Whether the additions name two sections of the same road tune played at different points, or two separate tunes, the catalogue does not explain, and no account from Merzifon on the matter has been printed.

Musical Features

The yürütme is the last item on the disc and comes after sung recordings: side A holds Rüstem Coşar's "Engin Hüseynî" and "Kandilli Kerem", and directly before it on side B stands the minstrel Aşir Kirpiksiz's deyiş "On Sekiz Bin Âlem". The zurna and davul in the instrument column are, by Kaya's method, the instruments actually played in the recording. The tune's scale, its rhythm and how it accompanied a procession are not on the card.

Performers and Recordings

No other performance of the yürütme exists; as one of the nine pieces Keleş and Duran played in Merzifon, it lives only on the 1943 disc. Pages have been published for Engin Hüseynî, one of the neighbouring recordings on the disc, and for the pair's Gelin Ağlatma. The similarly named Merzifon Karşılaması, for its part, entered the TRT repertoire from a collection by Nejat Buhara that carries no date.
