In Modern English

He studied in Amasya and Istanbul, received the icazet, and gained authorization to give public lectures. In 1135 [1722-23] he went to Mecca; after the pilgrimage he stayed there as a neighbor (mücavir) and began to teach in the Haram-i şerif with a teaching allowance of ten para a day, that is, thirty akçe.

In 1142 [1729-30] the governor of Jeddah and şeyhülharem Ebûbekir Pasha gave him twenty para a day, and another governor of Jeddah and şeyhülharem, Hacı Feyzullahzâde Hacı Ahmed Pasha, thirty para a day; the total became sixty para, that is, a teaching allowance of one hundred and eighty akçe. He became müderris of the Süleymaniyye and, in 1149 [1736-37], Hanafi mufti. In Ramazan 1155 [1742-43] he migrated to the abode of holiness (the hereafter), that is, he died. He was a Fâzıl, a hadith scholar, devout, pious, a man of praiseworthy appearance.

A Scholar from Amasya in Mecca

The entry is the short life story of a scholar who went out from Amasya and taught in the Hejaz. In a footnote Hüsameddin writes that the information is taken from the Hejaz and sürre registers. The allowances in the text are consistent with one another: thirty akçe corresponds to ten para a day, that is, one para equals three akçe. When Ebûbekir Pasha's twenty and Ahmed Pasha's thirty are added to the initial ten para, the total is sixty para, that is, one hundred and eighty akçe. Thus the scholar's teaching allowance rose to six times the initial one through the contributions of the two governors.

This is the same person as the Hacı Ahmed Efendi of Amasya mentioned in the footnote to entry 630. In that footnote it is written, in a record dated 22 Zilhicce 1148, that the governor of Jeddah raised the daily allowance of Hacı Ahmed Efendi of Amasya, who was in Mecca as a neighbor, by thirty para to sixty because he was his fellow townsman. So before the increase the allowance is thirty para, which is the sum of ten and twenty, and the two entries confirm each other. Accordingly, Ebûbekir Pasha's contribution was given in 1142 and Ahmed Pasha's in 1148; this entry lists 1142 and the increase that followed without giving a date. The governors of the Hejaz looking after their fellow countrymen is well seen in these two entries.

No information on this scholar was found in other sources.
