The Sultan Bayezid Mosque
The Bayezid Mosque stands at the center of a complex on the bank of the Yeşilırmak, laid out in an arrangement like that of the complex in Edirne; a madrasa lies on its right and a soup kitchen and almshouse (aşhane-imaret) on its left, and there was also a primary school (sıbyan mektebi). According to Hüsameddin's findings, the mosque was badly damaged in the earthquake of 1590, and in the earthquake of 1668-69 its domes collapsed and its minarets tilted; its trustee (mütevelli), İbrahim Ağa of Merzifon, repaired all the damage within a year. In 1197 [1782-83] a benefactor named Hacı Ali Ağa had taps installed on the river side of the mosque so that ablutions could be made with warm water in winter, and a library was added at the foot of the courtyard wall between 1909 and 1911 as a bequest of the Yamuk Osmanzâde family. The madrasa was used for many years as the provincial public library; the school building has vanished without a trace within the last century.
The Library of Abdüllatif Efendi
Hüsameddin himself, while studying at the Rüşdiye in his youth, had the opportunity to examine many books in the library of Abdüllatif Efendi, and it was around this time that he began collecting his first information on the history of Amasya. This detail shows that the library of the Abdüllatif Efendi named in this entry was still in operation at the end of the nineteenth century and was used as a place of learning. No detail on the date of the library's founding or the number of its books was found in other sources. The next entry, on Boluluzâde İbrahim Efendi, reports that he endowed all his books to this library.
No information was found in other sources on the life of Emir İmam Abdullatif Efendi and his son.
