In Modern English
He was a janissary and distinguished himself as a standard-bearer (alemdar). He was commander (serdar) of Amasya several times. In 1186 [1772-73], when he returned from the Russian war without the commander's permission, he was sharply reproached. Afterward he was reinstated and died around 1200 [1785-86]. He was a daring and harsh man.
Another İbrahim Ağa, son of Davud, was also one of the janissary officers. In 1186, when he shirked the Russian war, he was imprisoned in Amasya and sent back; because he held out until the end of the war and showed valor, he became commander of Amasya several times. He died around 1200.

Two Desertions in the Same Year
The text mentions two different İbrahim Ağas. Both left the Russian front in 1186 [1772-73]; the first returned without the commander's permission, the second fled and was imprisoned in Amasya. The two records may also be two accounts of the same event; Hüsameddin does not explain this. Both men were reinstated after a time and became commander of Amasya.
The year 1186 falls in the years of the Ottoman-Russian war that began in 1768. No detailed document or study on the janissaries who went from Amasya could be found; for this reason it could not be determined which unit and which campaign the words "commander" and "desertion" refer to.
Canikli Hacı Ali Pasha's receipt of the sanjak of Amasya as a lifetime tax farm (malikâne) in 1772 also falls in the same year. No source establishes a connection between İbrahim Ağa's return and this appointment.
