The Place of the Third Volume
Amasya Tarihi was planned in twelve volumes. Of these, the first four and the remainder (supplement) of the fourth volume could be printed; the fifth volume was lost, and the seven volumes from the sixth to the twelfth were bought by the Municipality of Amasya to be published. The third volume was printed in Istanbul in 1927 and is 392 pages. Its content covers the period of the principalities, beginning from the year 706 [1306], in which the notables of Amasya and the Azeris are described, the administration of Amasya by Yıldırım Bayezid and the Ottoman era; the narrative extends to Serdârıekrem Kuyucu Murad Pasha's clearing of Amasya and its surroundings of brigands in 1608. This description rests on the Encyclopedia entry; the page of thanks above is a short record showing who gave support to the printing of the volume.
The Author's Title
Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin was born in Amasya in 1869 and died in Istanbul in 1939. The last post of his official career was translator of the old waqf records (kuyûd-ı kadîme) at the Ministry of Pious Foundations. The title "Arabic Translator of the Waqf Deed Records of the Directorate of Pious Foundations" on the title page describes this post. That the third volume relies on the waqf deeds of Şâdî Bey and Sultan Altunbaş can be considered together with this professional knowledge; but this connection is an inference and is not explicitly written in the sources.
On the Persons Thanked
On Hilmî Bey, İsmâil Hakkı Bey, Mehmed Rüşdî Bey and the Istanbul Director of Pious Foundations İsmâil Hakkı Bey, named in the page of thanks, no reliable source confirming this context was found. Who held which post rests here only on Hüsameddin's own statement. To avoid confusing them with other persons of the same name, no further information has been written on these names.
