Lying 19 kilometres from the provincial centre, Yıldızköy is one of the central Amasya villages most easily confused in the records because of its name. The former name of Gözlek, a village in the Ezinepazar area, was also Yıldız, and that name was changed; Yıldızköy is a separate settlement that has kept its own. Adding to the confusion, the village drinking-water inventory in the provincial environment report lists Yıldızköy simply as "Yıldız". At the end of 2025, 143 people were registered in the village.

The Name and the Distinction from Gözlek

Listing the hundred villages attached to the central district of Amasya according to the 2024 civil administration inventory, Bekir Başalan places Yıldızköy near the end of the list, between Yıkılgan and Yolyanı. Yıldızköy does not appear in the same study's table of renamed settlements; there "Yıldız" occurs only as the former name of Gözlek, which Başalan counts among the cases where an old name was replaced by an entirely different one. A "Yıldız karyesi" found in older documents is therefore most probably Gözlek unless its context is verified separately. No sourced explanation has been found of how long the village's name has been in use or what it refers to.

That the shortened name in the water inventory belongs to Yıldızköy is clear from the table itself: the "Yıldız" row carries the village's official number, and Gözlek appears separately in the same table under its own name and number. The index of the 1530 account register from the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent also contains a "Yıldız"; this name belongs to a sub-district in the Sivas region and is recorded on pages 448-450, far outside the pages of the register devoted to the district of Amasya. No village called Yıldız or Yıldızköy is found among the Amasya sub-districts in the index.

Water and Services

According to the inventory in the 2023 provincial environment report, the village's drinking-water network was built in 2006. Water is taken from springs and pumped into the network; an average of 6,789 cubic metres is drawn each year, and the village is shown among those with an adequate supply. The inventory gives the village's population as 124. An older village record, in its table containing 2012 data, states that the village had no water network and no sewerage; the documents do not explain the reason for this discrepancy between the two records. According to the same record, the village had no health post, health centre, primary school or post office, and no bussed schooling was provided.

Population

The older village record shows 250 people in Yıldızköy in the 1990 census, 152 of them men and 98 women, and gives no explanation for this marked imbalance. By 2000 the population had fallen to 224. In the annual registers the 208 people of 2008 is the highest figure in the series; the number then declined steadily, reaching its lowest point of 124 in 2017. Rising to 156 the following year, the population climbed as high as 183 in 2023, then lost forty people in two years to stand at 143 in 2025. The latest record lists 70 men and 73 women in the village.
