An old local-government database of villages, with figures from 2012, places Yuvaköy 54 kilometres from the provincial centre of Amasya at an altitude of 970 metres; this village of the central district, well away from the city, should not be confused in the records with Yuvacık, whose name is similar. Although its population has fallen by more than half over the last forty years, it has remained remarkably stable since 2007, moving between 158 and 192. At the end of 2025, 158 people were registered in the village.

The Name and Early Records

In Bekir Başalan's count based on the 2024 civil administration inventory, Yuvaköy appears among the hundred villages of the central district as the last name on the list. The village does not appear in the same study's table of renamed settlements; Yuvacık, on the other hand, is recorded there with its former name Şeyhcui. No sourced information has been found explaining the origin of the name Yuvaköy or how long it has been in use. As with Yıldızköy, the village drinking-water inventory shortens the name here too, writing the village as "Yuva".

The index of the Karaman and Rum account register drawn up in 1530, under Süleyman the Magnificent, shows two separate villages called "Yuva". One is in the Argoma sub-district, on page 382 of the register, the other in the Karahisar-ı Demürlü sub-district, on page 421. Argoma was a sub-district covering the area of present-day Merzifon and Suluova, while Karahisar-ı Demürlü lies outside the district of Amasya; it therefore cannot be confirmed from documents that either entry is the present Yuvaköy.

Infrastructure

Yuvaköy's spring-fed drinking-water network dates from 1991, according to the 2023 inventory in the provincial environment report. An average of 9,746 cubic metres a year is drawn from it, an amount that appears to meet the village's needs; the inventory gives the village's population as 178. The older village record likewise notes sewerage alongside the water network. According to the same record, the village had no school, no health post or centre and no post office; bussed schooling was provided for its pupils.

Population

The figures in the older record place the village's main loss in the late 1980s. The population of 395 in 1985 fell to 292 in 1990 and to 209 in 2000; in fifteen years the village lost almost half of its inhabitants. The annual address-based series draws a different picture: starting at 167 in 2007, the figure barely moved for fifteen years, reached its highest value of 192 in 2018 and has stayed around 164-168 since 2022. In 2025, 158 people lived in the village, 77 men and 81 women.
