Lâdiklidir. Oranın eşrâfından Ali Ağa’nın mahdûmudur. Küçük yaşında enderûn-ı hümâyûna girip hıfz-ı Kur’ân ve tahsîl-i irfân ederek tefeyyüz edib rikâb-ı hümâyûn ağalarından oldu.
1205’de silahdâr-ı şehriyârî Lâdikli es-Seyyid Abdullah Ağa’nın şefa’âtı ile sânîyen enderûn-i hümâyûna alınıb hâne-i hâssada pâzârbaşı oldu.
In Modern English
He was from Ladik. He is the son of Ali Ağa, one of the notables of that place. He entered the Enderun-ı hümâyun at a young age, memorized the Qur'an, grew up learning, and became one of the sultan's rikâb ağas. In Şevval 1200 he became rikâbdar, and in Zilkade silahdar-ı şehriyârî.
But because he could not act in accord with the pleasure of Sultan Abdülhamid I, he left his post in Zilkade 1201; in 1202 he was made çerağ at Filibe (taken out of palace service and attached elsewhere) under the mutevelliship of Şehabeddin Pasha.
In 1205, through the mediation of the silahdar-ı şehriyârî Ladikli Seyyid Abdullah Ağa, he was taken into the Enderun-ı hümâyun a second time and became pazarbaşı in the hâne-i hâssa (the sultan's private quarters). In 1208 he was again removed from the palace; he was made guardian of the Kara Kum bastion at Sinop, and the cizye of Sivas and its dependencies was given to him as his own.
In 1210, at his own request, he was retired and came to Istanbul. He died in Zilhicce 1211. He is buried in the Ayrılık Çeşmesi cemetery. Though he was a man who knew affairs and was prudent, he was by nature harsh in temper. For this reason he could not rise.

What the Silahdar Aghaship Is
The silahdar ağası, or silahdar-ı şehriyârî, was one of the members of the Has Oda who attended to the sultan's private services. According to the Fatih Kanunnâmesi, he was the second great officer of these room ağas, after the has odabaşı. The silahdars' main duties were to walk at the sultan's left in ceremonies and at the Friday selamlık, to take their place at the left side of the imperial standard in war, and to prepare the roads along which the sultan would pass. The man Hüsameddin describes was raised in the Enderun and came to this post at what could be called a very young age; but he was twice removed from the palace, and the second time was sent to guard a bastion at Sinop.
On the Dates
The dates in the text are hijri: the year 1200 corresponds to about 1785-86, and the year 1211 to about 1796-97. The reason for the sultan's displeasure is not explained in the text. The expression "çerağ edildi" has been understood from its context as being taken out of palace service and attached somewhere; the exact meaning of the term could not be verified. Hüsameddin attributes the man's failure to rise to his harsh temperament, in his own words.
