In Modern English

He is the son of Hacı Feyzullah Efendi bin Hacı Hüseyin Ağa bin Hacı İsmail Efendi bin Mehmed Efendi bin Hacı Feyzullah Efendi, one of the notables of Amasya. He was a Janissary registered in the first company and from 1191 was serdar of Amasya. In 1203 he went to the Russian war as ağa of the serdengeçtis.

Because he showed valor in the war, he was rewarded with the rank of turnacıbaşı. On his return from the war he again served many times as Janissary serdar and as a member of the council of hajjis and the ayan council, and died around 1216.

The Chain of Descent and Local Power

The notable feature of the entry is that it gives the man's five-generation chain of descent: this shows that the family was a long-established family of hajjis and ayans in Amasya. That, though registered in the Janissary corps, he is called "serdar" in Amasya suggests that he stood at the head of the local Janissary organization. Hüsameddin also mentions him as a member of the ayan council. The rise of local dynasties in the eighteenth century in the matter of ayanship and mütesellimship is known; but the man of this entry has not been specially studied within this framework.

The hijri year 1203 corresponds to about 1788-89, and the year 1216 to about 1801-02. Which war is meant by the "Russian war" is not stated in the text; this has been interpreted by looking at the date. No information was found in other sources on this person.
