Şebinkarahisarlı Mehmed oğludur. Amasya’da Uzun Müftü Aybastalı es-Seyyid Abdullah, Çelebizâde el-Hâc Hüseyin Efendilerden ve hâssaten Seküköylüzâde el-Hâc Mehmed Kâşif Efendi’den tahsîl-i ulûm edib ders-i âm oldu.
Hayli müddet tedrîs-i ulûm ederek iştihâr etdi. Âhir ömründe ya’nî 1213’de inhilâl eden Mehmed Paşa medresesi müderrisi olduysa da 1214’de vefât etdi. Meşâhîr-i ulemâdan kâmil, fakîh bir zât idi. Va’z ü tezkîri mü’essîr takrîr ü ifâdesi düzgün idi.
He is the son of Mehmed of Şebinkarahisar. In Amasya he learned from Uzun Müftü Aybastalı Seyyid Abdullah and Çelebizâde Hacı Hüseyin Efendis, and especially from Seküköylüzâde Hacı Mehmed Kâşif Efendi, and became a ders-i âm.
He became known by teaching for a long time. At the end of his life, that is, in 1213, he became müderris of the Mehmed Pasha Madrasa, which had fallen vacant, but died in 1214. He was one of the well-known scholars, a mature man with sound knowledge of fiqh. His sermons and counsels were effective and his delivery fluent.
Seküköylüzâde Hacı Mehmed Kâşif Efendi, mentioned among Ahmed Efendi's teachers, appears in the neighboring entry as both the teacher of Ahmed Efendi of Ürgüp and the scholar who put the questions in the examination for the müderrisship of Hızır Pasha. Çelebizâde Hacı Hüseyin Efendi is also mentioned in the same entry among the well-known teachers who died before Ahmed Efendi of Ürgüp. From this it is understood that Ahmed Efendi of Karahisar was trained in the same scholarly circle of Amasya. He reached a müderrisship only at the end of his life, in 1213, and died the next year; 1213 and 1214 are hijri years and correspond to about 1798-1800.
