In Modern English
He is the son of Ahmed Ağa's son Hacı Abdullah Ağa of Amasya, who was kethüda to the former grand vizier Boynueğri Seyyid Abdullah Pasha; he is also the daughter's son of Şerîfzâde Seyyid Hacı Mustafa Ağa, one of the descendants of Adil Bey, that is, the son of Cüneyt Bey.
He studied and served as divan scribe to some viziers, especially Mikdat Ahmed Pasha; in 1191 [1777-78] he became mutevelli of the Adil Bey Waqf. Because his master fled to Russia in Şevval 1193 [1779], Şerîfzâde Seyyid Süleyman Ağa, one of Adil Bey's male descendants, applied to the court and in 1194 [1780-81] had the mutevelliship taken out of his hands.
When Mikdat Ahmed Pasha came as mutasarrıf of Amasya in Şaban 1196 [1782], his standing was restored; he became divan scribe again, and in 1198 [1783-84] he joined the ranks of the hâcegân of the divan-ı hümâyun. He became mutevelli of the said waqf for a second time.
But when the sanjak of Amasya was taken from Mikdat Pasha in 1202 [1787-88] because of his cruel conduct, this man too was ordered to reside in Amasya, and the mutevelliship was again taken from him. In 1205 [1790-91] he became a member of the ayan council, in 1206 [1791-92] he was dismissed, and in 1207 [1792-93] he died.
He knew the ways of the world, carried out his work, and was a fairly good calligrapher. Because he was short and stocky he was called "dip karpuzu." His sons are Seyyid Hacı Abdullah and Mustafa Efendis.
Seyyid Hacı Abdullah Efendi's son Seyyid Hacı Ahmed Efendi was also well known. His sons are Seyyid Ahmed and Mehmed Efendis. The sons of Seyyid Ahmed bin Seyyid Ahmed Efendi are Seyyid Mehmed Arif and İbrâhim; the sons of Mehmed Arif Efendi are Mehmed Ali and Osman.
The sons of Seyyid Hacı Mustafa Efendi's son Seyyid Hacı Ahmed Efendi are Seyyid Ahmed and Mehmed Efendis. The son of Seyyid Hacı Efendi, Seyyid Hacı Mahmud Efendi, died in early 1324 [1906] while pursuing Adil Bey's mutevelli lawsuit. They were called "the Hacı Ahmed Efendizades," and among the people also "the sons of Dip Karpuzu."

Connection with Mikdat Ahmed Pasha
Mikdat Ahmed Pasha, whom Hüsameddin calls his "master," is the younger son of Canikli Hacı Ali Pasha. According to one source, when Ali Pasha was appointed governor of Erzurum in 1778, the governorship of Sivas taken from him was given to Mikdad Ahmed, who was then only eighteen years old. It is also written that the ayans of Amasya, unable to bear his pressure, took refuge with Çapanoğlu Mustafa Bey at the end of 1778. After the Canikliler failed to hold out against the Çapanoğulları, fled to Crimea and were pardoned in September 1781, Mikdad Ahmed Pasha was given the governorship of Erzurum together with the sanjak of Amasya as an arpalık. This agrees with Hüsameddin's records that his master fled in 1193 and that Mikdat Pasha returned to Amasya in 1196; only Hüsameddin gives Russia as the place of flight, whereas the source speaks of Crimea. The same source on the Canikli family also reports that Mikdad Ahmed Pasha had waqfs in and around Amasya. The source does not separately mention the taking of the sanjak of Amasya from Mikdat Pasha in 1202.
The Adil Bey Waqf
The text shows that the mutevelliship of the Adil Bey Waqf was a matter of dispute lasting generations between the Şerîfzâde family and this man's descendants; it relates that Mahmud Efendi, who died in 1324, was still occupied with the lawsuit over the tevliyet. No information was found in other sources on the waqf itself or on Ahmed Efendi, nicknamed Dip Karpuzu.
