The Defeat at Kösedağ and Amasya
The event Hüsameddin calls "the Mongol war of 641" is the Battle of Kösedağ (1243), which changed the fate of the Anatolian Seljuk state. The army of Gıyâseddin Keyhusrev II dissolved before the Mongols; the sultan fled to Tokat and his vizier Mühezzebüddin Ali to Amasya. After the victory the Mongols plundered Sivas and Kayseri, and deep fear spread throughout Anatolia. The date of the battle is given in the sources as the first days of Muharram 641, that is, the beginning of July 1243; the year Hüsameddin gives agrees with this. That Alişîr Bey died in this battle could not be verified in another source.
Who Is the Vizier Fahreddîn er-Râzî?
Hüsameddin speaks of a kadı from Amasya, Fahreddîn Mehmed er-Râzî, who became vizier to Gıyâseddîn Keyhüsrev as the patron of Ahmed Bey. The text does not say explicitly which Keyhüsrev is meant. Considering Ahmed Bey's lifespan, Gıyâseddin Keyhusrev III, who was on the throne as a child between 1266 and 1282, comes to mind. The vizier who ran the affairs of state together with Muînüddin Süleyman Pervâne in this sultan's reign was Sâhib Ata Fahreddin Ali, son of Hüseyin el-Konevî of Konya. A vizierate of a Fahreddin Mehmed with the nisba Râzî and coming from the kadiship of Amasya was not found in the sources read. The similarity of titles may point to a confusion; but this is only a possibility.
Another Emir Named Alişîr
There is another Alişîr who lived in the same period and is better known in the sources: Kerîmüddin Alişîr of Germiyan. This emir, father of Yâkub Bey, the founder of the Germiyanid principality, became involved in the Seljuk struggles for the sultanate and, around 1264, was killed by the Mongols in Konya together with some other Seljuk emirs, following a complaint by Muînüddin Süleyman Pervâne. Alâeddîn Alişîr Bey, whom Hüsameddin mentions as governor of Amasya, and this Germiyan emir are different persons in name, title, and date of death; the two must not be confused. No information was found on the Alişîroğulları of Amasya apart from Hüsameddin's book.
