A Cross-Reference Entry
This entry is placed in the book only to direct the reader to the right heading. Because Hüsameddin mostly arranged people by their given names, many persons bearing the name "Ahmed" come one after another in this section; those told about under a separate heading by epithet or full name are merely mentioned here.
Atabeg Nâsıreddîn Ahmed Bey is the Seljuk atabey who had the Atabey Madrasa, known in Amasya by his name, built, and whose descendants are called "Atabeyzades." According to present-day research, he was atabey to the Seljuk sultan Mesud II and to his son Gazi Çelebi Tâceddin Altunbaş, served as governor of Amasya between 1322 and 1327, and died in 1327 of a wound received while defending Amasya against Yahşi Bey of the Karamanids. The biography of his grandson Ahmed Bey appears in this section under the heading "Ahmed Bey-Atabegzâde."
Rükneddîn Ahmed Çelebi of Sinop is, according to Hüsameddin, one of the leading scholars of Amasya. Because the name is similar, he must not be confused with "Rükneddîn Ahmed," mentioned as the translator of the Turkish translation of Acâibü'l-mahlûkât made at the order of Çelebi Mehmed at the beginning of the fifteenth century. Literary historians note that no information at all about that translator is found in biographical sources; Günay Kut, for her part, has suggested that the phrase "rüknüddîn" in the manuscripts is not a name but a prayer-formula meaning "pillar of religion." No information was found in other sources on Şâdî Beyzâde Kemâleddîn Ahmed Bey.
