Professorship from Father to Son
The entry describes two separate people. That the son of the first was also a professor strengthens the picture of the learned profession continuing within families in Amasya, a pattern that recurs in many entries of the book. More than forty madrasas have been identified in Amasya, and it has been argued that these madrasas and their professors were a centre of attraction in the educational life of the region. No record of the building Hüsameddin calls the "Dırâğiye Madrasa", or of its professorship that fell vacant in 1267, could be found in the sources read.
The Line of Descent from Abdî Efendi
The genealogy of the second man bears directly on Amasya historiography, the very subject of Hüsameddin's own work: at the head of the chain is named "the professor Abdî Efendi, the historian of Amasya and author of a biographical dictionary". According to the text this man was both a historian of Amasya and the author of a biographical dictionary; this rests on the text's own wording, and since no other source on Abdî Efendi was read, no further detail is given. The children and grandchildren of the line are listed by name. The location of the Bâlî Bey Mosque in Amasya and the present name of the Acem Ali quarter could likewise not be verified in the sources.
