In Modern English

He was the son of Abdulfettâh Efendi, one of the kadıs of Amasya. After completing his studies he served for a long time in deputy-judge (naib) posts. Later he became kassâm of Amasya [the official who divided inheritances], then was appointed kadı to towns, and died after 1108 [1696-97]. He was one of the scholars.

The other Kadızâde Ahmed Efendi, son of Mustafa Efendi, was likewise kadı in towns and provinces and died around 1113 [1701-02]. This one too was among the scholars. The first should be "Ganîzâde", and the second "Hayreddînzâde".

The Same Name, Two Different Kadıs

The entry lists two kadıs bearing the same name one after the other. The first is the son of Abdulfettâh Efendi, the second the son of Mustafa Efendi. Hüsameddin does not know for certain the real nicknames of these two persons, called Kadızâde in the book, and holds the opinion that the first should be "Ganîzâde" and the second "Hayreddînzâde". This is a guess, not information backed by a document.

The kassâm's office was the post of the official who had the inheritances of deceased persons divided according to sharia rules in an Ottoman kadı court. The path of Ahmed Efendi, who rose from the kassâmship of Amasya to kadı of towns, reflects an ordinary learned-class career that began with deputy judgeship in the provinces and extended to a town judgeship. No information was found in other sources on these two persons.
