In Modern English
He was from Amasya. He was the son of Sarhoş Mehmed Pasha of Amasya, one of the beylerbeyis; the latter was also one of the well-known zeamet holders. While alaybeyi of Amasya, during the grand vizierate of Civan Mehmed Pasha he became sanjak bey of Niğde, and in early 1057 [1647] beylerbeyi of Karaman. In Zilkâde of the same year he was dismissed, and later, as mutasarrıf of the sanjak of Hamid, he came to an understanding with Abaza Hasan.
For this reason he remained without office for years. In Zilkâde 1064, during İbşir Pasha's grand vizierate, he became mutasarrıf of the sanjak of Hamid for the second time, and in Receb 1066 he came to Amasya as one dismissed from office. In 1068 he followed Abaza Hasan Pasha and took part in the revolt, and so he was killed around 1069. The property of his sons, Mehmed Bey and Hüseyin Bey, was also confiscated in Amasya. His children were called "Sarhoş Oğulları" (the Sons of Sarhoş). They exist still today.

The Alaybeyi and the Zaîm
Zeamet holders supervised the timar-holding sipahis of their regions and went at their head on campaign. When a campaign was undertaken, one of the zaîms would be chosen and, with the title of alaybeyi, command the sipahis of the region. Sarhoş Mehmed Pasha's son's rise from alaybeyi of Amasya to the sanjak of Niğde and from there to the beylerbeyilik of Karaman is a typical example of a career advancing in the provinces by this route.
The Circle of Abaza Hasan
The understanding that Hüsameddin describes as "he came to terms with Abaza Hasan" relates to the political balance of the early 1650s. Abaza Hasan was appointed voivode of the Turkmens in 1648 as a kapıkulu sipahi; he then acted together with İpşir Mustafa Pasha, and the two, with the support of sipahi circles, forced the central government to come to terms with them. İpşir Mustafa Pasha became grand vizier in Zilhicce 1064 (October 1654); the date "Zilkâde 1064" in the text falls a month before the official appointment, so a small slip in the month count may have occurred. Although İpşir Pasha was executed on 5 Receb 1065 (11 May 1655), Hüsameddin says "in Receb 1066 he came to Amasya as one dismissed from office"; this may indicate a return a year after İpşir's death.
The revolt of 1068 broke out in response to Köprülü Mehmed Pasha's harsh measures. Abaza was killed in Aleppo at the end of Cemâziyelevvel 1069 (16-17 February 1659); the date Hüsameddin calls "the turmoil of 1069" covers this catastrophe.
