Prince Mustafa and Amasya

The "Prince Sultan Mustafa" named in the entry is the eldest son of Süleyman the Magnificent, and he was appointed governor of Amasya in 1541. According to the same source, after serving at Manisa from 1533 to 1541 he was transferred to Amasya on 16 June 1541 and remained there until he was put to death on his father's order in 1553. He is described as having won a name in Amasya as a governor who supported poetry and learning, protected the people and dispensed justice. A son was born to Mustafa in Amasya in 1546. Gülâbî Pasha's service as gate-keeper and companion must have fallen within these twelve years, between 1541 and 1553; Hüsameddin gives no date, and this span is inferred from the length of Mustafa's governorship of Amasya.

Gülâbî Pasha's name does not occur in the source read; this suggests that he was not among the high viziers around Mustafa, but this is only an inference. No other source was found on Gülâbî Pasha, his son Ayâs Bey or his grandson Mehmed Çelebi.

The Caucasus War of 993

The year 993 [1585], in which Ayâs Bey died, falls within the Ottoman-Safavid War (1578-1590). The serdar Özdemiroğlu Osman Pasha was present at the capture of Tabriz in 1585 and died in Tabriz on 29 October of that year. Which campaign Hüsameddin means by the "Caucasus War" is not stated; taking the year and the name together, it can be inferred that he fell within this war. The phrase "Iran wars" in the text may refer to the same war or to earlier Ottoman-Safavid wars; which is meant is not clear.

Which sanjaks Ayâs Bey governed, in which battle he died and where he was buried could not be found in the sources read.
