Mevlevism in Amasya
The history of Mevlevism in Amasya goes back to the time of Sultan Veled: Sultan Veled sent his caliphs to Amasya, Kırşehir and Erzincan and had zawiyas founded there. It appears that there were two Mevlevi lodges in Amasya: an entry that tells the history of Mevlevism writes that in the seventeenth century Grand Vizier Bayram Pasha founded the "second" Mevlevi lodges of Kayseri and Amasya. Which of these was the lodge where Hüsameddin's Veysî Dede became sheikh in 1067 [1656-57] cannot be understood from the text; therefore which one he headed could not be verified. It is also known from waqf records and from Hüsameddin that a Mevlevi lodge was built in 817 [1414-15] near the village of Şeyh Cuî in Amasya by Şeyh Cemaleddin son of Şeyh Osman, and that its sheikh was Mehmed Cuî Dede; Veysî Dede appears to have no connection with it.
Sheikhs and Sources
There is a 1996 article by Adnan Gürbüz on the Amasya Mevlevi lodge and its waqfs (Selçuk Üniversitesi Türkiyat Araştırmaları Dergisi, II, p. 287-295); since its text could not be reached, the names Mehmed Ârif Dede, Abdülkadir Dede and Veysî Dede given by Hüsameddin could not be compared with that study. No information on Taşcızâde Mahmud Çelebi, Mehmed Ârif Dede, Abdülkadir Dede or Veysî Dede was found in other sources. The reasons for the dismissals and appointments are not given in the text.
