The Father Ahmedî

The person whose biography is "written above" in the entry is Mevlânâ Tâceddin İbrâhim Ahmedî, whom Hüsameddin treats in volume 6; the sources give his real name as İbrâhim, his epithet as Tâceddin, and his father's name as Hızır, and he is the poet known for the İskendernâme. Hüsameddin writes that he was born in Amasya around 735, returned to Amasya after studying with Ekmeleddin el-Bâbertî in Egypt, went to Süleyman Bey of Germiyan in 783 after the death of the emir of Amasya, Şâdgeldi Pasha, and returned to Amasya in 805 and lived there for about ten years; he places his death at the end of 815, at the age of eighty. The encyclopedia entry, for its part, reports that there are both Germiyanid and Sivas traditions about Ahmedî's origin, that the information on his life is insufficient and inconsistent, and that Mecdî records that he died in Amasya after passing the age of eighty. This record agrees with Hüsameddin's account.

The Chain and the Dates in the Text

In this entry the son's name is Ekmeleddin Mehmed Çelebi and the grandson's name is Şehâbeddin Ahmed Çelebi. In volume 6, however, Hüsameddin mentions, after Ahmedî's son Ekmeleddin Mehmed Çelebi, the latter's son Tâceddin İbrâhim Bey, and gives Şehâbeddin Ahmed Çelebi as this Tâceddin İbrâhim's son, that is, as the son of Ahmedî's grandson. In this entry, Şehâbeddin is directly the son of Ekmeleddin. There is a difference of one generation between the two accounts, and which is correct cannot be determined from the sources read. A further uncertainty appears when the dates are compared: in volume 6 Ahmedî's return to Amasya is 805, while this entry describes Ekmeleddin's coming to Amasya with his father in 804. A one-year difference suggests that the two entries rest on different sources or that the years were rounded; this is an inference. No information was found in other sources on Ekmeleddin Mehmed Çelebi and his son.
