Within the Hamîdzâde Family

Ekmeleddin İbrâhim Çelebi is the brother of Efdalüddin Hüseyin Çelebi of the previous entry; the father of both is Hamîdeddin Mehmed Çelebi, one of the sheikhs of Amasya. Efdalüddin died in 874 [1469-70] and Ekmeleddin in 881 [1476-77], seven years later. The teacher Hüsameddin calls "Mevlânâ İbrâhim Tokatî" may be the same scholar who appears in the previous entry as "Tâceddin İbrâhim et-Tokâdî"; this is an inference, since the entry gives no further detail. The son Şemseddin Ahmed Çelebi's epithet "Ekmelzâde" stands beside "Efdalzâde" as a family name.

An encyclopedia entry exists on Efdalüddin's son, the şeyhülislam Hamîdüddin Efendi, and reports that Hamîdüddin Efendi criticized the views of Şeyh Ekmeleddin, who wrote a commentary called el-İnâye on Mergînânî's el-Hidâye. Ahmedî's teacher in Egypt is also called Şeyh Ekmeleddin el-Bâbertî. Since the epithet Ekmeleddin was also used outside these two scholarly families of Amasya, no link can be drawn between Ekmeleddin İbrâhim Çelebi of this entry and these two scholars; there is also no sign that they are the same person. No information was found in other sources on Ekmeleddin İbrâhim Çelebi and his son Şemseddin Ahmed Çelebi.
