Notes and Research

Old Words in the Text

  • ikmâl-i tahsîl: completing one's studies
  • ders-i âm: a madrasa scholar authorized to give public lectures
  • hâciyân meclisi: according to the text, the body of pilgrims (hajjis) among the notables of Amasya
  • vâ'iz: a person who preaches to the public in a mosque

Place of the Entry

The entry is a single paragraph. It does not mention İbrahim Efendi's birthplace, a post at a madrasa, or any work he wrote; what identifies him is his teachers, his authority to give public lectures, and his preaching. The epithet "Çorumlu" suggests a link with Çorum; the text does not explain the reason.

The year of death is given in round terms as "around 1197." This date falls about ten years after 1772, when the sanjak of Amasya was granted as a lifetime tax farm (malikâne) to Canikli Hacı Ali Pasha; these were also the years when Çapanoğlu Mustafa Bey was killed in April 1782. No source states that İbrahim Efendi had any connection with these events.

No information about this person was found in other sources.
