Two İsmâil Beys

The entry treats the İsmâil Bey named in the heading, of the Çûçû Paşazâde family, together with a second bey of the same class, Kuloğlu İsmâil Bey. Both are described as zeamet holders and both served as Amasya alaybeyi. The death years Hüsameddin gives fall in the first years of the Ottoman-Russian war that began in 1768, and the author explicitly ties Kuloğlu İsmâil Bey's death to that war.

The Amasya Sanjak in the Same Years

According to Yücel Özkaya's article on Canikli Ali Pasha, the Amasya sanjak was given to Canikli Ali Bey as a malikâne on 1 June 1772. Until then the sanjak was described as the rank of Vizier Derviş Pasha, son of Osman Pasha and governor of Karaman. Among the reasons given for the grant were preventing attacks by roving unattached levies, keeping the roads safe, and watching traffic between the Black Sea and Russia. The two beys in this entry died before that arrangement, in 1182 and 1183, that is between 1768 and 1770.

No information was found in other sources on Çûçû Mustafa Paşazâde Hacı Halil Bey, on his son İsmâil Bey, or on Kuloğlu İsmâil Bey. No source going beyond these two records was found on the Amasya alaybeyis either.
