He was from Ladik. He was the son of Mehmed Efendi, a relative of Şeyhülislam Mehmed Efendi of Ladik. He entered the Enderun Palace and was trained there, and by winning the favor of Hacı Beşir Ağa, the Chief Eunuch of the Harem (Dârüssaâde Ağası), he became his yazıcı (clerk) in 1144 [1731-32].
In 1153 [1740-41], with the help of Grand Vizier Zanalızâde Seyyid Hacı Ahmed Pasha, he became clerk of the sipahi and silahdar corps; in 1156 [1743-44] he became cavalry muqabeleci (auditor), and then clerk of the sipahi and silahdar corps again. He died in 1160 [1747-48] and is buried at Tokmaktepe in Eyüp.
His son was Mehmed Said Efendi; his son-in-law was Ladikli Hafız Ahmed Ağa, the sultan's silahdar, and his brother was İbrahim Efendi, whose son Hafız Ahmed Ağa was. The sons of Mehmed Said Efendi were the former grand vizier Mehmed Rauf Pasha and Tahir Bey. They came to be called the Yazıcızâdes.

Hacı Beşir Ağa
The Hacı Beşir Ağa named in the text is the well-known harem aga who held the office of Dârüssaâde Ağası from 1717 until his death in 1746. Thirteen of his twenty-nine years in office fell under Ahmed III and sixteen under Mahmud I. He died on 3 June 1746, and his tomb is in Eyüp. He held great influence over the sultan, especially Mahmud I, and was effective in appointments to important posts. He protected men of learning and education, and had a complex built in Bâbıâli consisting of a mosque, a primary school, a madrasa, a library, a dervish lodge and a fountain, along with a hadith school, a library and a fountain in Eyüp. The date 1144 [1731-32] given by Hüsameddin falls within his term of office.
Identity of the Grand Vizier
Hüsameddin calls the grand vizier of 1153 [1740-41] "Zanalızâde Seyyid Hacı Ahmed Pasha". The man appointed grand vizier on 22 June 1740 was Ahmed Pasha, born in Foça and known by the epithet Şehlâ. He stayed in office for nearly two years, was dismissed on 28 April 1742 and exiled to Rhodes, and later returned to state service. The date fits Hüsameddin's 1153. However, the name "Zanalızâde" and the title "Seyyid" do not appear in that entry, and it could not be verified whether the two names belong to the same person.
The Yazıcızâdes and Mehmed Rauf Pasha
According to Hüsameddin, Mehmed Rauf Pasha, a descendant of İsmâil Efendi, was a former grand vizier. The best-known grand vizier of that name is Mehmed Emin Rauf Pasha, born in Istanbul, who served as grand vizier five times under Mahmud II and Abdülmecid, the first term beginning on 1 April 1815. His father was Said Efendi, who had served as çavuşbaşı and nişancı, and Rauf Pasha himself added the post of cavalry muqabeleci to his office of sadaret mektupçusu in 1809. It is notable that the father's name matches Hüsameddin's Mehmed Said Efendi, but the encyclopedia entry mentions neither the name Yazıcızâde nor any tie to Ladik. That they are the same person could not be verified.
Points That Could Not Be Verified
No information was found in the sources read on İsmâil Efendi himself, on Şeyhülislam Mehmed Efendi of Ladik, on the silahdar Hafız Ahmed Ağa or on İbrahim Efendi.
