Cavalry Officer and War
Ahmed Ağa's military record should be read together with the re-founding of the Ottoman army's cavalry. According to the source, the cavalry of the Porte's slave troops (kapıkulu) was abolished and new cavalry regiments were set up in their place, first in Istanbul and later outside Istanbul too. No record was found in the sources consulted on how the "sipahi corps" mentioned in the text was reopened in Amasya. The name of the war in which Ahmed Ağa took part as a captain in 1248 [1832-33] is not given either. Considering that the year falls in 1832-1833 and that the Asâkir-i Mansûre fought the Egyptian troops between 1831 and 1833, it is plausible that this was that war; but this is an inference, and the text does not name the war.
Hindî Ahmed Paşa
No information on Hindî Ahmed Paşa, at the head of the chain of descent, was found outside Hüsameddin; the search turned up other Ahmed Pashas connected with Amasya, but no link between them and this man could be established. That persons titled hacı and ağa are named over four generations in the Küpceğiz Quarter shows that the family long held a known place in the quarter. In the second paragraph various occupations are listed among his sons and grandsons: court member, poet, sipahi, dentist, grocer. This list, which runs to the years 1308 and 1312, also includes the generations alive when the entry was written.
In Other Sources
No record of Ahmed Ağa and his family was found outside Hüsameddin. For the administrative council, see the note in the entry on Ahmed Ağa, Türedîzâde.
