Family and Lineage
In this entry Hüsameddin takes Ahmed Efendi's lineage back seven generations, to Fazlullah Efendi; it may be thought that the names "Fazlızade" and "Fazlıoğlu" come from this ancestor, but the text does not say so. It is noteworthy that he calls the father, Abdullah Ağa, the "serdar of Amasya". Neither the definition of the post nor the years it lasted are given in the text. That a family bearing the title seyyid took part in the councils of notables and in the administrative council in Amasya shows the weight of lineage and family in local government; this is an interpretation based on the text. Ahmed Efendi's father-in-law, Fazlızade Mehmed Emin Efendi, is also counted among the notables; through this marriage the family was tied to the circle of notables as well.
The Physician Affair
Hüsameddin does not explain what the "Tabib Vak'ası" was. In the entry on Ahmed Bey of Kışlacık a "1261 event" is mentioned, in which the man "went through considerable difficulty", again in 1261; the two expressions may point to the same event, but the text does not say so. The searches made found no record of an event called "Tabib" in Amasya in 1845. The event could therefore not be verified. He is said to have kept his position during the affair; what that position was is not stated.
Quarters and Councils
Ahmed Efendi is written down as one of the notables of the Eski Kethüda Quarter. No reliable source was found for the present name or location of this quarter, and the search made on the quarter also gave no result. That he became a member of the administrative council "when it was first opened" shows that the council was set up after the Tanzimat; councils were formed in the provinces by the 1840 collector arrangement and the 1849 instruction. Which council is meant is not clear.
In Other Sources
No record of the Fazlızade family or of Abdullah Ağa was found outside Hüsameddin.
