In Modern English
He was a native of Amasya, son of the sanjak governor Murâd Beyzâde Hacı Mehmed Ağa, one of the notables of the Bâyezîd Pasha quarter. While he was a sipahi and kethüdâyeri of Amasya, Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha came to Amasya in the month of Muharrem 1070 [1659], and he entered the pasha's circle; he became first an expenses agent, then kapıcılar kethüdâsı of the grand vizier.
In 1078 [1667-68] he was one of the chiefs of the palace gatekeepers, and in Şevval 1080 [1670] he became kethüda of the grand vizier. But because he was of very gentle disposition, he was dismissed in Şaban 1081 [1670-71], came to Amasya, and became trustee of the Sultan's endowments. At the beginning of Receb 1082 [1671] he became mukataat emini of the province of Sivas.
In 1083 [1672-73] he became voivode of Tokat and beytülmal emini of Amasya; in Cemâziyelevvel 1085 [1674] he became trustee of the Sultan's endowments for the second time; in Zilkade 1086 [1676] voivode of Zile; and in Muharrem 1088 [1677] he came to Amasya as trustee of the Sultan's endowments for the third time. In Şevval 1089 [1678] Ankebut Ahmed Pasha made him mütesellim of Amasya.
In 1092 [1681-82] he was charged with driving off and dispersing the bandits who had sprung up at the place called Çengelli; having carried out this duty, he became voivode of Zile for the second time. In 1094 [1682-83] he came to Amasya as trustee of the Sultan's endowments for the fourth time. For five years he managed the Sultan Bâyezîd Endowment well, repaired and revived the great mosque, and ran the imarethane.
In Cemâziyelevvel 1099 he fell gravely ill and died on the seventh day of Cemâziyelâhir. The late man was pure by nature, gentle, thin-voiced, nimble, tall and handsome; so during his time as the grand vizier's kethüda, Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha, instead of calling him "my kethüda", used to call him "My Lady" (Kadınım). For this reason he became famous as "Kadınım Ahmed Ağa". His sons were Hacı Mehmed and Mustafa Ağa.

The Sultan Bayezid Complex and Ahmed Ağa as Trustee
The "Sultan's endowments" that Ahmed Ağa administered four times are those attached to the Mosque and Complex of Bayezid II on the bank of the Yeşilırmak in Amasya. In the middle of the complex stands the mosque, with the madrasa on its right and the soup kitchen-imaret and the guesthouse (tabhane) on its left. According to the three-part construction inscription, the mosque was completed in July 1486. Hüsameddin, however, claims that construction began in September 1481.
Hüsameddin's findings about the complex are still cited as a source today. According to him, the mosque was badly damaged in the earthquake of November 1590, and in the earthquake of 1079 (1668-69) the domes collapsed and two minarets leaned. According to the TDV entry, the trustee Merzifonlu İbrahim Ağa repaired this damage within a year. Ahmed Ağa's five-year trusteeship after 1094 falls in the period after these repairs. Hüsameddin writes that he repaired and revived the mosque anew; but his name does not appear in the encyclopedia entry's list of repairs. Whether this is because the repair was small in scale or because the list is selective is unclear.
Offices and Chronology
The sequence of offices in the entry shows how a local notable moved between the provinces and the centre. Ahmed Ağa held posts in the sanjak as trustee, beytülmal emini, mukataat emini, voivode and mütesellim, while also rising to a central office such as kethüda of the grand vizier. The dates begin with Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha's arrival in Amasya (1070) and continue after the pasha's death in 1087 (3 November 1676). Ankebut Ahmed Pasha, who gave him the mütesellim post, is the person Hüsameddin mentions in volumes 1-4 as mutasarrıf of Amasya in 1066; this pasha, who became beylerbeyi in Crete, died in 1680.
No information was found in other sources on the location of the Çengelli place or on the 1092 bandit incident. No other information could be found on Murâd Beyzâde Hacı Mehmed Ağa either.
The Nickname "Kadınım Ahmed Ağa"
The story of the nickname belongs to Hüsameddin: Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha called his gentle, thin-voiced and handsome kethüda "Kadınım" instead of "kethüdâm". The nickname could not be found in any other source; the basis of the tradition could not be verified.
The Upper Savâdiye Mosque
According to Hüsameddin's footnote, it is understood from the endowment records that Ahmed Ağa had a mosque (mescid) and a fountain beside it in the Upper Savâdiye quarter. The same footnote also records that when the mosque's imam, Hâfız Abdurrahim Efendi, died childless in Şaban 1206 [1792], Hâfız Ali Efendi became imam. In the mid-nineteenth century a Lower Savadiye is also counted among the quarters of Amasya; today there is a Savadiye quarter in Merkez. No information was found in the sources on the present state of the mosque and fountain. The Bâyezîd Pasha quarter is today called Beyazıtpaşa quarter.
