Köprü, the Köprülüs and Their Surroundings

The Köprü in the entry is Vezirköprü, today attached to Samsun. In Hüsameddin's time it was a district attached to the sanjak of Amasya. Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha was born here in 1045 [1635-36]; his mother was Ayşe Hanım, daughter of Yûsuf Ağa, voivode of the town. His father Köprülü Mehmed Pasha took his name from this town. Kara Mustafa Pasha himself was born in a village near Merzifon and as a child came under the patronage of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha; that is, another name who rose from the Köprülü circle and later became grand vizier is also a man of the same region.

The dates Hüsameddin gives agree with the death of Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha. Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha died near Çorlu on 26 Şaban 1087 (3 November 1676) while traveling from Istanbul to Edirne; Ahmed Ağa's being "left without a post" corresponds to this date. Kara Mustafa Pasha of Merzifon, who became grand vizier after him, was executed on 6 Muharrem 1095 (25 December 1683). Hüsameddin places Ahmed Ağa's removal from the voivodeship within the year 1095; this is very close to the fall of Kara Mustafa Pasha. The text draws no link between the two events, and whether such a link exists is not known.
