The Devlet Hatun Waqf

The Devlet Hatun waqf in the text is most likely the Devlet Hatun waqf in Merzifon. Devlet Hatun, regarded as the mother of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed, died around 1413. According to an account relying on Uzunçarşılı, Çelebi Mehmed, on his mother's will, had a zaviye consisting of a sofa and two rooms built beside his own madrasa in Merzifon and in his waqf deed of 1422 had his mother's name written as "Devlet Hatun binti Abdillah." Hüsameddin writes that at the end of the 17th century the waqf was still under the trusteeship of a Merzifon family. No other source was found confirming this chain of trustees of the waqf; that the waqf in the text is the zaviye waqf in Merzifon is also not certain, it is an inference.

Şâhbaz Pasha and His Time

Kara Mustafa Pasha was born, the son of a sipahi of Merzifon, in the village of Marınca (today Karamustafapaşa) in Merzifon and was raised under the patronage of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha. Hüsameddin says that Şâhbaz Pasha became sanjak bey under the patronage of Kara Mustafa Pasha; no source was found showing how this patronage was established. No information on Şâhbaz Pasha's sanjak governorship of Amasya was found in other sources. The Vienna war is the failed siege that led to the execution of Kara Mustafa Pasha in 1683; Şâhbaz Pasha, who went to Rumelia, also took part in this siege and was wounded; this detail belongs to Hüsameddin.
