In Modern English
He was the son of Şirinzâde el-Hâc Hâfız Hasan Ağa, a former mütesellim (deputy governor) of Amasya; Hasan Ağa was the son of Şirin Ali Efendi. He grew up in the circle of Hazînedârzâde Süleyman Pasha. Later he became steward (kethüda) of the said pasha and kapıcıbaşı (head of palace gatekeepers), and in Cemâziyelâhir 1242 [1826-27] he became mütesellim of Amasya.
In Safer 1243 [1827] he was dismissed. He then served as mütesellim of the Çorum sanjak, as deputy governor (kaymakam) of Arabkir, and as collector (muhassıl) and governor (mutasarrıf) of the Bozok sanjak, and he died early in 1255 [1839]. His stepson, Hânedân Ağazâde Hâfız Hasan Ağa, was also called "Şîrînzâde". The latter's son is el-Hâc Mustafa Efendi, of the notables of Amasya. The sons of his only son Mehmed Efendi are Ahmed Bey and Mahmûd Bey. The Şîrînzâdes too are among the Hânedân Ağazâdes.

The Office of Mütesellim
The mütesellim was the deputy of a beylerbeyi or sanjak bey who collected the sanjak's taxes and used their authority. The term of office was in principle one year, but this was almost never observed. In the eighteenth century local dynasties had taken most mütesellim posts. When complaints of corruption multiplied, in the nineteenth century the rule became that mütesellims should be chosen from Istanbul and especially from among the kapıcıbaşıs of the Sublime Porte. In the reign of Mahmud II, the mütesellims of many sanjaks, Çorum among them, were appointed directly by the treasury. That Ahmed Bey became mütesellim with the title of kapıcıbaşı agrees with this practice. According to the dates Hüsameddin gives, his term in Amasya also lasted less than a year (Cemâziyelâhir 1242 to Safer 1243).
Hazînedârzâde Süleyman Pasha
The "Hazînedârzâde Süleyman Pasha" in whose service Ahmed Bey grew up may be the same man as the Hazinedarzâde Süleyman Pasha named in some sources as founder of a family of standing on the Black Sea coast; since Hüsameddin gives no further detail, this is not certain. This Süleyman Pasha became tax collector of the Canik sanjak in March 1794, exercising the office with the title "head of the harbor guards", which was granted to him for the first time. In 1812 he became governor of Trabzon with the rank of vizier, and he died on 28 April 1818. His eldest son Osman Pasha served as governor of Sivas in 1827-28 and again in 1832-33. The date 1242 given by Hüsameddin falls after Süleyman Pasha's death; if the identification is right, Ahmed Bey's service as the pasha's steward and kapıcıbaşı must have been long before that.
No information on the Şirinzâde family, on the Hânedân Ağazâdes, or on Ahmed Bey's posts in Çorum, Arabkir and Bozok was found in other sources.
