The Hıfzızâde Family

The name "Hıfzızâde" in the entry works like the family's nickname: his grandfather is Hıfzı Abdurrahman Efendi and his uncle Hâfız Hacı Osman Fa'ik Efendi. Osman Fa'ik Efendi appears in entries 660 and 663 as Amasya's renowned hadith scholar and the teacher of a great number of students. Among those who studied under the same teacher, besides Ahmed Efendi, are Müftüzâde Ahmed Efendi and Karamânî Ahmed Efendi; these relationships, as Hüsameddin relates them, show the circle of students gathered around a teacher in Amasya's scholarly life.

His leaving the professorship is also noteworthy: in 1176 he handed the post to his teacher's son and son-in-law, Abdülganî Efendi. Entry 660 also describes, in the same year, 1176, a professor leaving his teaching post to his son and son-in-law; it is seen that teaching posts in this period were handed on within the family and to sons-in-law as well. No information was found in other sources about the Torumtay Madrasa or about this person.
