He was from Ladik. After completing his studies under the Amasya scholar Pîrîzade Hüseyin Efendi, he returned to Ladik and gave public lectures. As his superiority in learning became evident, on the death in 1099 [1687-88] of Seyyid Kürd Mehmed Efendi, müderris of the Hızır Pasha Madrasa there, he became müderris of Hızır Pasha.

After four years of giving fatwas and devoting himself to worship, he died on the twelfth of Şevval 1123 [1711]. The Hızır Pasha Madrasa and Its Waqf

Hızır Pasha, named in this entry of the book, is one of the builders of Amasya's foundational period. Hızır Paşazade Mehmed Pasha, who built the Mehmed Pasha Complex in Amasya, is his son; Mehmed Pasha is known as a vizier of Bayezid II and as lala of Prince Ahmed, and died in 1495. In the complex's tomb, beside Mehmed Pasha's grave, the first grave belongs to his father Hızır Pasha and the third to the Halvetî sheikh Habib Karamânî.

As for the location in Ladik of the Hızır Pasha Madrasa where the müderris served, and its waqf revenues, some sources say that the lands endowed by Hızır Pasha were also in Ladik; this information could not be verified. No information was found in other sources on the Sarı Bey Lodge or on Ahmed Efendi himself.

Points of Note

Ahmed Efendi's life follows a straight scholarly line. He studied in Amasya, returned to Ladik where he was born, and moved first to a madrasa professorship and then to holding a lodge sheikhship together with the professorship. Hüsâmeddin records his death giving the month and day together with the year.
