In Modern English

He was the son of Mustafa Bey, one of the notables of Amasya; Mustafa Bey was the son of Abdurrahman Bey, who in turn was the son of Eyüp Pasha. He was born to Fatıma Hanım, daughter of Ahmed Bey of the Torumtay line. On his mother's death he came to hold half of the administration (tevliyet) of the Torumtay Waqf.

He was originally a sipahi; he served as steward to certain viziers. In Rebiülevvel 1115 [1703] he attached himself to Nişancı Ahmed Pasha and, during his grand vizierate, had become kethüda of the kapıcıs. In Receb of the same year, when the said grand vizier was dismissed and imprisoned, he fled into hiding and came to Amasya. He died on the ninth day of Cemaziyelahir 1118 [1706]. His sons are Mustafa and Abdurrahman Ağas.

His Link with Nişancı Ahmed Pasha

The Nişancı Ahmed Pasha named in the entry is Kavanoz Ahmed Pasha of the previous entry; the same person is also known as Sührablı and Nişancı. Eyüp Paşazade Ahmed Ağa became kethüda of the kapıcıs during this pasha's grand vizierate and fled when the pasha was dismissed. According to the encyclopedia entry, Kavanoz Ahmed Pasha became grand vizier on 22 August 1703 and was dismissed and exiled to Sakız on 17-18 November 1703 (8-9 Receb 1115). Hüsâmeddin's record of "Receb 1115" agrees with these dates. Ahmed Ağa's association with the pasha coincides with the pasha's brief three months as grand vizier.

The Torumtay Waqf

The name Torumtay is known in Amasya through the Torumtay Tomb, directly opposite the Gök Madrasa. The tomb was built in 1278 by Seyfeddin Torumtay, Governor of Amasya, and contains, besides Torumtay, the graves of his children and grandchildren. What exactly the waqf Hüsâmeddin mentions comprised is not stated in this entry; the waqf's relation to this tomb could not be verified from the sources we read.

In Hüsâmeddin's account the administration of the waqf passes from hand to hand among the notables of Amasya. Ahmed Ağa held half of the tevliyet because his mother Fatıma Hanım was of the Torumtay line. The same waqf is also mentioned in the entry on Gürcüzade İbrahim Bey in the same volume of the book: his father Mehmed Bey appears as administrator of the Torumtay waqf who died in 1114, while İbrahim Bey became administrator of the waqf after the death of his brother İsmail Bey, from 1132. It is understood from these records that the share of the administration could be divided.

No information was found in other sources on Eyüp Pasha, Abdurrahman Bey, or Ahmed Bey, father of Fatıma Hanım.
