The Alaca Bath and the Trusteeship

The entry is short, and no information on the person could be reached beyond the book. No information was found in other sources on this person. The really interesting side of the text is that the trusteeship of the Alaca Bath appears in the same family for two generations: Ahmed Efendi retired as the bath's trustee, and after his death his son Hüseyin Efendi took his place.

Hüsâmeddin mentions the same bath in the fourth volume of the book as well. At the end of the year 1033, when those regarded as close to the rebellion were dismissed in Amasya after the revolt of Abaza Hasan Pasha, the mufti of Amasya, Tâceddîn Efendi, had also been removed from his post. According to the text, Tâceddîn Efendi was trustee of the Alaca Bath and it was wished to remove him from this post too, but the kadı prevented it. Hüsâmeddin mentions him and another preacher as two of the "famous scholars" who had to leave their posts because they were regarded as Abaza partisans.

Since this entry gives the name of Taceddînzâde Ahmed Efendi's grandfather as Taceddîn, it is possible that the Taceddîn Efendi in the two records belongs to the same family. However, Hüsâmeddin draws no such link, and it could not be verified from the sources at hand. Which building the bath corresponds to today, and whether it is still standing, was also researched in other sources, and no reliable record could be reached concerning an Alaca Bath in Amasya.
