He was one of the emirs of Prince Sultan Şehenşah (son of Sultan Mesud), governor of Amasya, and was among the notables of the year 575 [1179-80]. He died after this. His sons were Selçuk Bey and Şirin Bey. Alâeddin Alîşîr Bey, son of Selçuk Bey, and Arslan Bey, son of Şirin Bey, became known; his farmstead is known to this day as the Village of Aydoğdu.

Notes and Research

Old Words in the Text

  • ricâl: the leading men of the state
  • mahdûm: son
  • ma'rûf: well known

The Lord of Aydoğdu and the Village Name

The entry is a counterpart of the Âmûl Bey record in entry 51: the same prince-governor, an emir, two sons, and the emir's farmstead having turned into the name of a village today. Hüsameddin gives this record together with the genealogical order; he names no document or inscription. The two names mentioned from the grandson generation of the line are Alâeddin Alîşîr Bey and Arslan Bey.

The name Aydoğdu is known elsewhere in Anatolia too. The Village of Aydoğdu in Yenişehir, Bursa, named after Aydoğdu Bey, the nephew of Osman Gazi, took this name in the nineteenth century. Whether the Aydoğdu in Amasya took its name from the emir Hüsameddin speaks of could not be confirmed in this research; no such connection appeared in the pages consulted on the village of Aydoğdu in Amasya. The reservation about the identity of Prince Şahenşah is the same as in entry 51: no governor of this name is known in the accounts of Amasya's Seljuk period.

No information on Aydoğdu Bey — Emîr Bedreddîn was found in other sources.
