In Modern English

He is the son of Nişancı el-Hâc Ahmed Pasha, whose biography was written earlier, son of Hacı Hamza Bey, son of Ahmed Bey. He was one of the beys of Prince Sultan Ahmed, governor of Amasya, and in 918 [1512-13] disaster befell him. But in 920 [1514], when Sultan Selim Khan honoured Amasya with his presence, he received the sultan's pardon, and after becoming mirliva (sanjak governor) of sanjaks, he died in 927 [1520-21] in the war of Canbirdi Gazâlî.

Prince Ahmed's Partisans and Selim I

Hüsameddin's year 918 coincides with the time when Bayezid II handed the throne to his son Selim in April 1512. By then the partisans of Prince Ahmed had fallen out of favour; Tâcîzâde Câfer Çelebi, who openly supported Ahmed, narrowly escaped the janissaries' attack in September 1511, was dismissed from the office of nişancı, and waited about two years before taking office again. The "menkûbiyet" that befell Hızır Bey may also be a result of this political climate; this is an inference, since the text does not state the reason.

Selim I, returning from the Chaldiran campaign, came to Amasya on 4 December 1514 and wished to spend the winter here in order to continue the campaign the following year. Hüsameddin's sentence of 920 about the "teşrîf" and the pardon agrees with this visit; but no separate document was found for the pardon and the mirlivâship.

The War of Canbirdi Gazâlî

Canbirdi Gazâlî, one of the Mamluk emirs, had been made beylerbey of Damascus after Selim I took Egypt. After Süleyman's accession he rebelled, had the khutba read in his name and coins struck, and besieged Aleppo on 1 November 1520. The Ottoman army sent against him under Ferhad Pasha defeated him on 27 January 1521 at Mastaba near Damascus; Canbirdi was killed after the battle. Hüsameddin's date of 927 agrees with this event. The source records that at the start of the campaign orders were sent to the beylerbeys of Anatolia and Rum and to some beys to join it; no separate record was found confirming that Hızır Bey was among these forces.
