The Family of Bâyezîd Pasha

Bâyezîd Pasha, through whose kinship Ebûbekir Bey is mentioned, is one of the first great grand viziers of the Ottomans. His father's name is Yahşi; since he was born in Amasya he appears in the sources as "of Amasya," and Albanian origin is also probable. During Çelebi Mehmed's sanjak governorship in Amasya he was in his close retinue, remained loyal to this prince in the Interregnum, and in 1413 was appointed grand vizier and beylerbeyi of Rumelia. When Çelebi Mehmed died he concealed the death for forty days and so secured Murad II's accession; in 1421, in Rumelia, where he had been sent against Düzmece Mustafa, most of his soldiers went over to the other side, and he was forced to surrender and was killed. The mosque, soup kitchen and madrasa he had built in Amasya have endowment deeds dated 820, 821 and 823 [1418-1420].

According to the lineage Hüsameddin gives, Ebûbekir Bey descends from this great vizier's cousin and ties the family to the Danishmend Melik Sunkur Gâzi. In another entry Hüsameddin writes that Melik Sungur Gâzi Bey settled in Amasya in 518 [1124]. The link that brings the family from so ancient an ancestor rests on Hüsameddin's genealogical records; it could not be confirmed in another source.

The Persian and German Wars

Hüsameddin does not give the names of the wars in which Ebûbekir Bey took part. In Ottoman sources the name "German" or "Alaman Campaign" is used especially for the Güns campaign that Süleyman the Lawgiver made in 1532 against Ferdinand, king of Austria, and Charles V, the German emperor. The Lawgiver's first Persian campaign, the Irakeyn Campaign, was made between 1533 and 1536. Given that Ebûbekir Bey died around 940 [1533-34], the Persian wars in question must be either the beginning of this campaign or the eastern campaigns before it.

Karasenir

Karasenir, which Ebûbekir Bey received as his retirement income, is a settlement to the southwest of Amasya, about eleven kilometers from the city. Hüsameddin writes that the name comes from Emîr Seyfeddîn Kara Sungur, who had a farm here, and that the name "Kara Sungur Çiftliği" became "Karasenir" in time; in another place he also records that Karasenir is the foundation of İltekin Gâzi. The village's famous vineyards, gardens and dairy products were also mentioned in Hüsameddin's time. Karasenir is still a village attached to the center of Amasya; the local people tell that Ser-Çoban Dede, who lies on the hill between Kayabaşı and Karasenir, settled in this village.
