In Modern English
He was a native of Amasya. He was the son of İshâk Bey bin Hacı Emîr Ali Bey bin Süleyman Bey bin Ali Bey, of the noble line of Halfet Gâzi. He was the nephew of the kazasker Hasan Çelebi; while he was one of the great emirs in the time of Sultan Murâd Han II, he became guardian of the province (vilayet muhafızı) beside the governors of Amasya, Sultan Ahmed and Alâeddîn Bey. In 847 [1443-44] he fell a martyr in the Varna war.

The Family Tie
This Ebûbekir Bey is of the same family as Hacı Ebûbekir Bey of the Halfet Gâzi line, described two entries earlier, but is a generation later. In both entries the lineage goes back to Ali Bey, son of Süleyman Bey, and to his son Hacı (Alâeddîn) Ali Bey. The Ebûbekir Bey of the previous entry is Hacı Ali Bey's son and the brother of the kazasker Hasan Çelebi. The Ebûbekir Bey of this entry is the son of İshâk Bey, another son of Hacı Ali Bey. Consequently both the kazasker Hasan Çelebi and the Ebûbekir Bey of the previous entry are his uncles; Hüsameddin's note "nephew of Hasan Çelebi" shows this tie.
The Princes in Amasya
The two princes beside whom Ebûbekir Bey served as guardian are sons of Murad II. Prince Ahmed Çelebi, also called Büyük Ahmed (Ahmed the Elder), was born in Amasya in 1420, became sanjak governor of Amasya after Yörgüç Pasha was sent in 1435 to be guardian of Edirne, remained in this post for about three years, and died in Amasya in 1438. Prince Alâeddin Ali Çelebi was born in Edirne in 1425 and in 1440, at the age of fifteen, was appointed sanjak governor of Amasya; his lala was first Yörgüç Pasha and, after his death in 1441, Paşazâde Mehmed Efendi. Alâeddin took part, by his father's order, in the campaign of 1443 against the Karamanids, and on the way back died as a result of an accident while racing his horse near Bursa, and was buried in the Muradiye Complex in Bursa. The office Hüsameddin calls "vilayet muhafızı" points to the local beys who stood beside these young princes in the administration of the sanjak.
The Battle of Varna and a Difference in Dates
The Battle of Varna was fought on 10 November 1444, near Varna in present-day Bulgaria, between the Crusader army made up of Hungarian, Polish, Wallachian and Balkan forces under the command of King Ulászló I and the army of Murad II, and ended in a decisive Ottoman victory. The Ottoman army had been drawn up in the shape of a bow, with the Rumelian sipahis on the right wing and the Anatolian troops under Karaca Pasha in the center. It is plausible that Ebûbekir Bey, as a bey coming from the Anatolian sanjaks, fought among these central troops; but no record showing this was found.
Hüsameddin gives the year of death as 847. 10 November 1444, however, falls in the month of Receb of the Hijri year 848; the year 847 had ended in April 1444. Therefore either the year Hüsameddin gives is a year early, or Ebûbekir Bey died during the campaigns of 1443-44 that preceded Varna. Ebûbekir Bey's name was not found in the general sources describing Varna.
