His Grandfather Taşcızâde Ebûbekir Pasha

The nickname "Paşazâde" comes from Ebûbekir Bey's grandfather Taşcızâde Ebûbekir Pasha. According to what Hüsameddin relates in the same volume, the pasha was among the notables of the Şeyh Garîk quarter of Amasya. He became a sipahi in 1047 [1637-38], attached himself to Köprülü Mehmed Pasha and his son Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha, and rose to the voivodeship of Galata and in 1083 [1672] to the kethüdaship of the grand vizierate; in 1088 [1677] he became governor of Bosnia with the rank of vizier, then governor of Sivas and Erzurum, and in 1094 [1683] fell as a martyr before Vienna. That the lists of Ottoman governors of Bosnia include the name "Hacı Ebûbekir Pasha" in the years 1676-1677 agrees with this information. Hüsameddin gives the pasha's sons as Mehmed and Ahmed Beys and adds, "Ahmed Beyzâde was Ebûbekir Bey, and these were called the Bekir Paşazâdes." The subject of this entry is the son of this very Ahmed Bey. From another branch of the same family, Taşcızâde Ebûbekir Ağa, son of the pasha's brother and kethüda Mustafa Ağa, fell as a martyr in the war with Nadir Shah in 1157 [1744].

The Alaybeyilik

Both Ebûbekir Beys mentioned in the entry were alaybeyi of Amasya. The alaybeyi was one of the commanders of the timar-holding sipahis and could become a sanjak bey when promoted. In the timar system one of the zaîms was chosen and given the title of alaybeyi, and this person was held responsible for all affairs concerning the sipahis within the sanjak. Fiefs with income above 20,000 akçe were called zeamet, and their holders zaîm, meaning a person at the command level. That both Ebûbekir Beys are introduced in the entry as "from the züamâ" conforms to the rule that the alaybeyi was chosen from among the zaîms. That between 1170 and 1174 the post passed between two different Ebûbekir Beys is the reason Hüsameddin mentions these two people in the same entry.

Which event the "war against brigands" in which Ebûbekir Bey, son of Kürd Bekir, took part was cannot be understood from the text. That his father es-Seyyid Mustafa Bey was a mirliva shows that the family reached a rank at the level of sanjak bey. No information on these two Ebûbekir Beys was found in other sources.
