The Doctor Affair
The "Doktor vak'ası" in the text appears in other entries of Hüsameddin's book as well, but nowhere is it explained what the event was. Yeğenzâde İbrâhim Âsım Bey was sent to Samsun in 1254 [1838-39] in the "First Doctor Affair". In the entry on Es'ad Ağa the first event is placed at the beginning of 1255 [1839]; it is written there that when the event broke out he fled in fear and hid in Köprü, and that he returned and took up his duties when Sultan Mahmud II died and Sultan Abdülmecid acceded to the throne. Kapancızâde Hâfız Ahmed Efendi was sent to Sivas in 1261 [1845-46] "in the Doctor affair" and came back six months later. Kabasakalzâde İbrâhim Edhem Efendi went to Istanbul in 1262 [1846] and settled in Tırnova. In this entry, Fazlızâde's exile to Samsun is tied to 1263 [1846-47].
The book's use of the word "first" suggests that the event happened at least twice. The difference in years between 1254-55 and 1261-63 fits this. But this is an inference: Hüsameddin does not name the second event separately and does not state the cause. No independent source explaining the event was found in the searches.
Zünnûnâbâd and the Pervâne Bey Quarter
According to Hüsameddin, Zünnûnâbâd, where Fazlızâde served as müdür, was formerly a separate district with its center at the village of Elvân Çelebi. It was known as the "District of Zünnûnâbâd" until 1263 [1846-47] and then dropped to the status of a nahiye attached to Mecidözü. After returning from exile, Fazlızâde served as müdür in Zünnûnâbâd, İskilip, Sâz and Köprü in turn; the text does not say how long he stayed in each place or in what capacity he worked. The Pervâne Bey quarter, where he was born, lies west of the Burma Minare Mosque; the quarter takes its name from İzzeddîn Mehmed Pervâne Bey, nephew of the great Pervâne Bey, who lived there until 700 [1300-01]. That the Burma Minare Mosque was built by Necmeddîn Ferruh, one of the Seljuk emirs, is known from the inscription over its door, and from the waqf deed in which Pervâne arranged its waqf in 699 [1299-1300].
No information was found in other sources about Fazlızâde Emîn Mehmed Efendi and his family.
