The Receb Quarter
Hüsameddin places the Receb quarter east of the tomb of the Seljuk Sultan Mesud, on the site of the old settlement of Simre. The quarter took its name because Sadreddîn Receb Çelebi, a tutor of sultans who died in 899 [1493-94], lived there and built a mosque. When the mosque burned in the fire of 1011 [1602-03], Hasan Efendi of Amasya, a descendant of Receb Çelebi and a former kazasker of Rumeli, rebuilt it in 1029 [1619-20] and added a school and a fountain beside it. The building burned again in the fire of 1143 [1730-31], and its imam and administrator Sâatçizâde el-Hâc Mehmed Efendi repaired it.
What Could Not Be Found About the Family
Hüsameddin gives no detail beyond the sequence of generations in this entry (Osmân Pasha, Ahmed Bey, Hacı Mehmed Pasha). The text does not say which offices the pasha held, whether his rank reflected a real post or only an honorary title, or where the epithet "Şahinzâde" came from. No entry in the other volumes of the book was found that seems linked to this family. Another person called Şâhinzâde Mustafa Pasha appears in volume 10, but the book establishes no connection between him and the family in this entry, and to assert one would be unfounded at this stage.
No information was found in other sources about Emîn Mehmed Bey, Hacı Mehmed Pasha, Osmân Pasha or the place of the Şahinzâde family in Amasya.
