Because during this post his service to the Kuvâ-yı Millîye (National Forces) organization had been carried out, he was elected deputy for Amasya in 1341, and his service was appreciated. In 1345 he became deputy for Amasya for the second time, and in 1349, elected a third time, he was kept in the deputyship for Amasya. Who He Was

His birthplace, his father's name and the order of his posts agree with the life story of Ahmet Esat Uras (1882 Amasya - 11 January 1957 Ankara). According to some sources, Uras finished the Vefa İdadisi and the Mülkiye school; served as an administrator in İzmit, Bolu, İnebolu, Ahtabolu and Gevaş, served as mutasarrıf of Rize, and was deputy for Amasya in the Grand National Assembly from the second term to the eighth. The same sources give his grandfather as İsa Efendi, who came to Amasya from Şamahı, and his father as Hacı Nuri Bey; this agrees with the names "Şirvânî Hacı İsa Efendizâde" and "Hacı Mehmed Nuri Efendi" in Hüsameddin. Hüsameddin calls him Es'ad Ahmed; that he is the same person as the man known today as Ahmet Esat Uras is, to a large extent, certain, though the book does not give the surname.

The Lazistan Sanjak and the National Forces

During the years of the National Struggle the centre of the Lazistan Sanjak was Rize, and the sanjak was attached to the Trabzon province. Among the mutasarrıfs of Rize in this period the names of Ahmet Faik (Günday), Eşref, Esat and Hurşit Beys appear. In the list of mutasarrıfs of Rize, Ahmet Esat Uras is cited for the year 1922. Hüsameddin's remark that he was elected deputy "because of his service in the Kuvâ-yı Millîye organization" is consistent with this post.

The Deputies of Amasya

The seven deputies who represented Amasya in the first Grand National Assembly were Ahmet Hamdi (Apaydın), Dr. Asım (Sirel), Ali Rıza (Özdarende), Mehmet Ragıp (Topala), Ömer Lütfi (Yasan), Ali Rıza (Topçu) and Bekir Sami (Kunduh); Esat Uras is not on this list, and entered the Assembly from the second term onward. It is possible that the years 1341, 1345 and 1349 that Hüsameddin gives correspond to three successive elections, that is, those of 1923, 1927 and 1931; this is an inference, and the calendar is not stated in the book. Uras's deputyship after these three elections does not appear in the book; according to the sources it continued to the eighth term.

Points to Note

In the book his birth quarter appears as Kocacık; since another source writes the quarter name as "Gumacig", it could not be verified whether these two names refer to the same place. Hüsameddin left two dates blank, and the editors of the edition note this in a footnote.
