The Village of İlgaz

There is a village called İlgazi attached to the central district of Amasya; its population in the 2021 census is 173. Whether the "village of İlgaz" Hüsameddin speaks of is this village could not be determined, since there is no record that the village's name comes from the Danishmendid emir.

The Danishmendid Emirs

The "Melik Dânişmend Ahmed Gâzi" named in the entry is Danişmend Gazi, the founder of the Danishmendid dynasty. Among the emirs in Danişmend Gazi's retinue who conquered Amasya, Tokat, Niksar, Sivas and Kayseri are named Çavuldur, Tursan, Kara Doğan, Osmancık, İltekin and Karatekin; the name İlgaz does not appear in these lists. Danişmend Gazi's death is accepted as about 1085. Hüsameddin gives no exact year but says "after 500"; 1106-07 and after is more than twenty years after Danişmend Gazi's death. This suggests that the emir may also have served Danişmend Gazi's successors; this is an inference.
