In Modern English
He is from Amasya. He is the son of Abdullah Pasha, son of Hacı Sinan Bey, who has a mosque and a madrasa in the Sofular quarter. After the death of his elder brother Abdüsselam Bey, he, together with his middle brother Abdülkerîm Bey, endowed in 907 [1501-02] their father's property and land that had fallen to them, for the affairs of the said mosque and madrasa.
Afterwards this person was appointed to the administration of the endowment, became its steward, and became one of the notables of Amasya. He died in 931 [1524-25]. His son Abdülkerîm Bey became steward of the said endowment. His other son Ali Bey, while a mîrlivâ (sanjak governor), died a martyr in the Rhodes war in 927 [1520-21]. His other son is Veli Bey.

The Sofular Mosque and Madrasa
The building Hüsameddin speaks of is known in Amasya today as the Dârülhadis Mosque, the Abdullah Pasha Mosque or the Sofular Mosque. It was built as a mosque and dârülhadis (hadith school) by Beylerbeyi Hacısinanbeyzâde Abdullah Pasha (d. 896/1490-91), one of the notables of the reign of Bayezid II. Its endowment deed was drawn up in 907 [1501-02] by his son Defterdar Abdülkerîm Bey; the same Abdülkerîm Bey added a dârülkurrâ (Qur'an school) to the east of the building in 1505, a section that has not survived. Throughout the Ottoman period famous hadith scholars taught here, and the building today is used only as a mosque and is in good condition.
The building is set on two terraces, high above the street to the north. The rubble-stone walls are reinforced with three courses of brick tie-beams, and the corners are strengthened with hewn stone. Above the door is an Arabic inscription giving the name of the founder and the date. East and west of the closed courtyard entered through the door are two dârülhadis cells each, and to the south the domed main hall, which also served as a classroom. At the northeast corner rises a cylindrical minaret of brick. The building is regarded as a design without parallel in Ottoman architecture, joining closed-courtyard madrasas and mosques with a zaviye.
Comparing Hüsameddin with Present-Day Knowledge
Hüsameddin gives Abdullah Pasha as the owner of the mosque and madrasa and attaches the endowment of 907 to his sons, that is, to Abdülkerîm Bey and the brother who is the subject of the entry. Present-day knowledge gives the same year but attributes the deed only to Abdülkerîm Bey and states that Abdullah Pasha died in 896 [1490-91]; that is, the endowment act comes about eleven years after the father's death. This does not contradict what Hüsameddin relates: the father's property passed to the sons, and the sons endowed it. The duty Hüsameddin describes as "became steward" can be considered together with the title "defterdar" given in the source to Abdülkerîm Bey, who drew up the deed. The name "İskender Bey" in the heading of the entry does not appear in the text; it is not found in the present-day source either.
The Line Continuing in Amasya
The footnote of the book gives the following information: the children of Abdülkerîm and Veli Beys continued in Amasya. The sons of Abdülkerîm Beyzâde Mehmed Bey are Abdî and Mustafa Beys; the son of Veli Beyzâde Hüseyin Bey is Hacı Abdülkerîm Pasha. This genealogical information rests on Hüsameddin and could not be verified in another source.
The Rhodes Campaign
Rhodes, where Ali Bey died, was conquered on 1 Safer 929 (20 December 1522) as a result of the campaign Suleiman the Magnificent set out on, on 21 Receb 928 (16 June 1522). Hüsameddin, however, writes that Ali Bey died in 927. The year 927 falls before the date given in the sources for the campaign; the reason for this difference could not be verified in the sources consulted.
