In Modern English

He was the son of Ali Bey, son of Hacı İbrahim Bey, son of Mehmed Bey, of the notables of Amasya, and the nephew of Gürcüzâde Seyyid Halil Pasha, son of Mustafa Pasha, son of Hacı İbrahim Bey. In his youth he became a holder of a zeamet (large military fief).

From 1175 [1761-62] he was mîr-i âlâ (regimental commander) of Amasya three or four times; in Zilhicce 1185 [1772] he was made deputy governor (mütesellim) of Amasya by his cousin Seyyid Halil Pasha, who had become governor (mutasarrıf) of Amasya, and in 1186 [1772-73] he was dismissed and went to war. When peace was made he returned and died in early 1190 [1776]. His sons were Mehmed Rıfat and Abdullah Abdî Bey.

The Governorship of His Cousin

Hüsameddin gives Seyyid Halil Pasha's governorship of Amasya as Zilhicce 1185. Zilhicce is the last month of the year; this date corresponds to early 1772 in the Gregorian calendar. According to the sources, the sanjak of Amasya was granted to Canikli Hacı Ali Pasha as a life-tenure grant (mâlikâne) on 30 May 1772; that is, Halil Pasha's tenure falls shortly before this appointment. No information on Halil Pasha was found in other sources.

Ahmed Bey's dismissal in 1186 and his departure for war fit the years of the continuing Russian war. His return after the peace and his death in 1190 are consistent with the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca of 1774; however, the text does not say explicitly which peace it means.
