The Kara Mustafa Pasha Complex
The mosque where Ahmed Efendi and his father served is the mosque of the Kara Mustafa Pasha Complex in Merzifon. The complex consists of a mosque, library, children's school, shops, a stone caravanserai (taşhan), a covered market (bedesten) and two baths. According to the inscription above the mosque door, construction began in 1077 [1666-67]. One of the complex's two waqf deeds is dated 23 Safer 1089 [16 April 1678]. The mosque, taşhan and bedesten have reached the present largely in their original state. The source describing the complex's buildings does not mention a madrasa; the Şifâiye Madrasa remains outside these records as a separate foundation. The madrasa's present condition and other records could not be found in the sources researched.
