In Modern English

He was the son of Hacı Osman Ağa, one of the notables of Amasya; Osman Ağa was the son of Hacı Bilâl Efendi, and Bilâl Efendi was the son of Mehmed. His grandfather Hacı Bilâl Efendi, while muezzin of the Kocacık Mosque, had been appointed steward (mütevelli) of the waqf of the Mevlevi lodge. Upon his father's death he himself became a member of the councils of pilgrims and notables; in 1184 [1770-71] he became hacıbaşı and in 1185 [1771-72] head of the notables (başayan). In 1186 [1772-73] he withdrew into seclusion, and he died in 1191 [1777-78]. He was one of the great ones among the notables.

The Council of Notables and the Mevlevi Lodge Waqf

The ayan were the leading and influential men of the town; the titles "hacıbaşı" and "başayan" in the record show the person's weight in the administration of the town. The text states that he entered these councils after his father died, that is, through a standing passed down from generation to generation. The path of his grandfather, from muezzin at the Kocacık Mosque to steward of the Mevlevi lodge waqf, is also notable: a minor mosque attendant became the administrator of a lodge's waqf.

No information on the present condition of the Kocacık Mosque or of the Mevlevi lodge mentioned here was found beyond this record.
