The Waqf of Abdullah Pasha
Beylerbeyi Abdullah Pasha was one of the statesmen of the reign of Bayezid II. According to the encyclopedia entry, Hacısinanbeyzade Abdullah Pasha died in 896 [1490-91] and had the mosque and dârülhadis (hadith school) built in the Sofular quarter of Amasya. His waqf deed was drawn up in 907 [1501-02]. The building is known as the Abdullah Pasha Mosque or the Sofular Mosque; in the Ottoman period it was a place where well-known hadith scholars taught, and today it is used only as a mosque. It has a special place in architectural history because it represents a transition between the madrasa with a closed courtyard and the mosque with tabhane (guest rooms). Abdullah Pasha's tomb is also inside the building.
A Discrepancy in the Genealogical Chain
Hüsameddin traces Abdullah Bey's lineage back to Abdullah Pasha through a long chain. In this chain Abdülkerîm Bey is the son of İskender Bey, that is, a grandson of Abdullah Pasha. The encyclopedia entry, however, presents Defterdar Abdülkerîm Bey, who drew up the waqf deed, as Abdullah Pasha's son. These two pieces of information do not agree; there may be two different people with the same name, or a generation may have been written missing or in excess in the chain. Which is correct could not be resolved with the sources consulted.
No separate source was found to consult for details such as the Nadir Shah wars and the Alaybeyi office. No information was found in the sources consulted about the vizier Seyyid Abdullah Pasha either.
